NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont University Volleyball returns to the friendly confines of the Curb Event Center this week, hosting Southeast Missouri State for a pair of matches, February 21 and 22.
Southeast Missouri State comes to Nashville with a 2-2 record after sweeping Eastern Kentucky this past weekend. The Redhawks won both of matches, 3-1. SEMO is led in kills by Laney Malloy, who leads is ranked third in the OVC in kills with a 4.27. She is also second in the conference in points per set at 4.80.
Tara Belismith earned OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors this week after she posted 41 digs versus EKU. She is also ranked third in the conference in digs, averaging 5.00 per set.
BU leads the series between the programs, 6-5. The last time Belmont won was at home in 2017.
Belmont remains on the hunt for its first win of the 2021 spring season as it heads into its second weekend in the Curb Event Center. The Bruins are led in kills by freshmen Kristen Clemons (Louisville, Ky.) and Sophia Hagstrom (Dallas, Texas), who recorded 13 and 12, respectively. Junior Carly Mason (Forsyth, Ill.) posted 35 assists over the two matches and logged her first double-double of the season. Freshman Rachel McBride (Decatur, Ind.) led the team in digs with 25, followed by Mason and classmate Ally Peterson (Kenyon, Minn.), who each added 21 over the stretch.
Belmont has not seen action since the first week of February since its matches at UT Martin were postponed due to weather. Those contests have been rescheduled as a doubleheader on February 24 in Martin.
Both matches will have live stats available. Both contests will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Monday's match has been desingated as the program's Think Pink game in honor of those in the fight against and lost to breast cancer.
