Corralled by the Camels

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont women's tennis dropped to the Campbell Camels, 5-2, Monday morning at Centennial Sportsplex.

The Bruins received a pair of singles victories from the junior tandem of Maria Plaksina and Terra Sheldon but were unable to close out the day with a win. 

The visiting Camels took doubles point winning at positions one and three to open the contest. The duo of sophomore Lauren Carelli and junior Drew Hawkins logged Belmont's lone doubles victory over senior Lucile Pons and sophomore Inma Ramon of Campbell. 

The Bruins dropped their first two singles matches, as Hawkins battled to a 6-4 first set win over Pons, but fell in the final two sets 6-1, 6-3. Senior Lea Cutura clinched the match for the Camels in the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over sophomore Peyton Lee.

Plaksina responded with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 6 spot, as Sheldon finished out the day with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7, 10-6 victory at No. 5.

UP NEXT: The Bruins (1-1) round out their three-game homestand on Saturday, as they host Western Carolina at 3 p.m. in the Ensworth Tennis Center.
