NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Four fall tournaments and 20 spring matches highlight the 2019-20 Belmont Women's Tennis Schedule as announced by the program on Tuesday.
The Bruins enter this season with hopes to maintain the momentum from last season, where they finished with 12 wins, the most by the program in 15 years. They return eight players, including their top three singles wins leaders: juniors Erin Allen and Terra Sheldon and sophomore Peyton Lee.
"This is the first fall season with women's team for Danny (Hester) and myself, so it will be a great opportunity for us to conduct practices in a way that will be beneficial for the team and get them ready for the spring season," said Mauricio Antun, Belmont's Director of Tennis.
Belmont opens its fall season on September 13-14 at the Austin Peay Fall Classic in Clarksville. A week later, they head to Georgia for the Mercer Fall Invitational on September 20-22. After a break, they are back on the court at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional in Murfreesboro on October 17-22 and then wrap up the season at the Murray State Fall Invitational on October 25-26.
The spring season kicks off on January 18 as the Bruins host Cumberland (Tenn.) and then entertain Campbell on January 20. The rest of the home schedule features the likes of Campbell, Dayton, MTSU, Western Carolina, and three OVC foes: Austin Peay, Southeast Missouri State, and UT-Martin.
The road slate includes trips to Chattanooga, Lipscomb, UAB, Western Kentucky, as well as five OVC opponents: Eastern Illinois, Jacksonville State, Murray State, SIUE, and Tennessee State. The squad will also head to Florida for Spring Break, playing matches against Quinnipiac on March 10 and Northern Kentucky on March 11.
The season wraps up at the OVC Championship on April 17-19, held this year at a new venue, the Adams Tennis Center in Murfreesboro.
"The spring schedule will be very challenging," said Antun. "I think our non-conference opponents will be a great preparation for the competition that we will face in OVC play. "Overall, with our eight returning players and the addition of sophomore transfer Somer Henry and freshman Taylor Trondson, it should be an exciting year for Belmont Women's Tennis."
