NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Belmont women's soccer senior Alison Alcott (Dallas, Texas) received another postseason honor this week. The defender was named to the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's All-South Region Third Team.
Alcott is the fifth Belmont women's soccer player to receive an All-Region nod from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and the first since the 2009.
"I want to thank my fellow coaches for recognizing Ali Alcott's commitment to the game and her team. This places Ali on a very elite group of Belmont women's soccer players and I couldn't be happier for her," said Belmont head coach Heather Henson. "This award along with her Academic All-America Award is a wonderful example of Ali's dedication to excel both in the classroom and on the field."
Alcott was a Second Team All-OVC selection in 2013 and was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week on October 29 that season. The Dallas, Texas native has played in every match of her collegiate career, starting all but four, and has served as the team captain. In the classroom, she compiled a 3.965 grade point average in Nursing with a minor in Spanish. Alcott has earned Dean's List honors multiple times and is a two-time OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection. She also earned the same distinction from the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Most recently, Alcott garnered Capital One Academic All-America® honors, becoming only the second Belmont women's soccer player and the 21st Belmont student-athlete to earn the recognition. Alcott also received the prestigious OVC Scholar Athlete Award, the highest individual honor that can be earned by OVC student-athletes, and is given annually to three men and three women student-athletes for their accomplishments in both the classroom and athletic arena, and because of their leadership qualities.
At the conclusion of the 2013-14 season, she earned the OVC Medal of Honor for having the highest GPA in her sport.
Alcott joins fellow OVC members Rianna Jarrett (First Team), Dominika Conc (Second Team) and Amy Maksimowicz of UT Martin (Third Team), Samantha Jones (Second Team) and Michelle Auer (Third Team) of SIUE, and Julie Mooney (Second Team) of Murray State on the All-South Region Team.
