CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's soccer team ended its 2014 regular season in grand style Friday evening as the Bruins defeated Austin Peay State University, 4-2, at APSU's Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.

Early in the match, Austin Peay (4-12-1, 3-5-1 OVC) quickly lit up the scoreboard first as sophomore midfielder Brianna Avitabile found the back of the net for the first time this season off a pass from forward Gina Fabbro just under five minutes into the contest.

Belmont's Belicia Mendiola (McKinney, Tex.) evened the match in the 29th minute as the freshman recorded her seventh goal on the year with an unassisted effort.

The Bruins were the ones to strike quickly coming out of the locker rooms as Belmont's Taylor Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) scored an unassisted goal off a ricocheted ball in the box just over two minutes into the second stanza as BU jumped ahead 2-1.

That would prove to be the final lead change of the evening as BU's Addison Cartwright (Alton, Ill.) took a cross from Meg Howard (Brentwood, Tenn.) and found the back of the net in the 70th minute for the first time of the year helping give the Bruins some breathing room as the Bruins went up, 3-1.

In the 83rd minute, Mendiola found the back of the net for the second time of the match as the forward notched her team-best eighth goal of the year as Belmont (7-7-4,  4-4-2 OVC) went on for the 4-2 victory.

BU's four tallies proved to be a season-best.

Overall, Belmont outshot APSU 23-15 and held a commanding, 15-4, on goal advantage.

Individually, Meniola led the Bruins with 5 shots, four of which were on goal.
