NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's soccer team gets its first taste of Atlantic Sun action this weekend at the Whitten Soccer Complex. The defending A-Sun regular season co-champion Bruins host Mercer on Friday night and 2009 league co-champion Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon.
The Bears come to Nashville looking to snap a five-game skid. Mercer won its season opener against Georgia State 4-0. Recently, the Bears have had difficulty finding the back of the net, scoring only five goals over the last six matchups.
Mercer is led in scoring by Emily Milone and Lauren Johnson, who have each netted two goals. Casey Barrett and Sara Elliott lead the team in assists with two apiece. The Bears' top goalkeeper is Cristina Guilarte, who has a record of 1-4-1. She has logged over 350 minutes between the posts, has a GAA of 2.05 and a save percentage of .667.
Kennesaw State will bring a 3-3-1 mark into Nashville this weekend after snapping a three-match skid with a 2-1 win over Georgia Southern earlier this week.
The Owls are led in scoring by Alma Gardarsdottir, who has recorded three goals. Alyssa Mahan, Kristin Marietta, and Lauren Ruffini have each netted two goals so far this season. KSU's leading netminder is Staci Pugh, who has logged 509 minutes in goal. She has recorded a 1.77 GAA, a save percentage of .756 and a 3-2-1 record.
Belmont is on the hunt for its second win of the season after dropping its final pair of non-conference contests over the weekend. The Bruins were edged 1-0 at first-time opponent Eastern Illinois before falling 2-1 in double overtime at Indiana State.
Sophomore Jane Owen Robbins (Ridgeland, Miss.) netted her first collegiate goal against the Sycamores. Junior Sari Lin (Carefree, Ariz.) logged over 146 minutes between the posts to finish the week with a 1.23 GAA and a .778 save percentage.
