Women’s Soccer Hits the Road for Final Non-Conference Road Trip

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Aiming to reach the .500 mark, the Belmont women's soccer team (1-3-0) returns to the road for its final non-conference road trip of the season this weekend.  The Bruins travel north for a contest with Eastern Illinois (2-3-1) on Friday afternoon and Indiana State (3-2-0) on Sunday afternoon.

The Bruins will face off against their fifth first-time opponent of the season when they take the field on Friday afternoon.  EIU is on the hunt for its third win of the season after losing three of its last four and finishing in a tie.

The Panthers have four players who have each netted one goal - Ashley Streid, Elise Farrelly, Kristin Germann, and Kaitlin Sullivan.  The team's leading goalkeeper is Kaylin Lorbert.  In over 558 minutes in goal, she has recorded a 0.64 GAA and a save percentage of .857.

Belmont and Indiana State have not met in competition since 2002.  The teams are locked in a 1-1 all-time series tie.  ISU is in the midst of a three-game win streak with victories over Butler, IPFW, and Eastern Illinois.

The Sycamores are led in scoring by Ashley Collins and Casey Clark, who have each netted two goals.  Emily Lahay is the team's leading goalkeeper, having logged over 424 minutes between the posts.  She has a GAA of 0.42 and a save percentage of .846.

The Bruins picked up their first win of the season last weekend at the Whitten Soccer Complex.  Belmont rebounded from an early deficit to defeat first-time opponent Arkansas State, 3-1, to snap a three-match skid.  Sophomore Lauren Paynter (Danville, Ky.) netted the equalizer in the ninth minute and junior Jamie Loftis (Hermitage, Tenn.) netted the gamewinner in the 24th minute of play.  Classmate Gretchen Sutch (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored the insurance goal in the 87th minute.  Freshman Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) went the distance inside the net for the first time in her collegiate career, coming away with four saves in the effort.
