Women’s Soccer Closes Homestand with Arkansas State on Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's soccer team remains hot on the trail of its first win of the 2010 season with another opportunity approaching on Sunday afternoon.  The Bruins host first-time opponent Arkansas State beginning at 2 p.m. at the Whitten Soccer Complex.  Sunday's contest marks only the third time Belmont has faced off against a team from the state of Arkansas.

Arkansas State will see action against two Atlantic Sun teams this weekend, hosting Lipscomb at home on Friday before coming to Nashville on Sunday.  The Redwolves bring a 2-0-1 record into this weekend after picking up shutout wins over Arkansas- Pine Bluff and Louisiana Tech last week.  The Redwolves' leading scorer is Kara Nitti who has netted two goals.  The team's leading goalkeeper, Susan Brown, was named the Sun Belt Conference women's soccer player of the week after continuing to not allow a single goal for an opponent to be scored.

The Bruins are still on the hunt for their first win of the 2010 season.  The Bruins were edged in overtime, 2-1, last Friday by Clemson before falling to Minnesota, 7-0, in a special midweek matchup.

Senior Erica Carter (Spring, Texas) and sophomore Lauren Paynter (Danville, Ky.) lead the Bruins in scoring, each netting a goal apiece.  Junior Sari Lin (Carefree, Ariz.) and freshman Nicole Berner (Randolph, N.J.) continue to split time inside the net, combining for 21 saves over the first three contests.
