Fifth Place Finish at Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. – Spurred by their best team round of the season, the Belmont women's golf team moved up two spots and finished in fifth place at the Lady Red Wolves Classic held this week at Sage Meadows Country Club in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Belmont carded a season best round of 295 in Tuesday's final round to move up two spots and finish in fifth place with a 54-hole mark of 898.  Their fifth place finish was their second top-five finish in three events this season.  Host Arkansas State won the team title with a score of 873, while Lipscomb and Southern Illinois tied for second at 881.

Two Bruins finished among the top-10.  Sophomore Katelyn Dunstan carded a one-under par 71 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for fourth place at 217.  She finished six shots behind the individual champion, Annie Mascot of Washington University- St. Louis.  Her final round 71 was her low round of the season and her fourth place finish was a career-best for the Arkansas native. 

Fellow sophomore Cameron Fish shot a 74 in the final round to finish in a tie for 10th place at 220.  It was her first top-10 and second top-20 finish of the fall season. 

Other Belmont scores from the tournament included: senior Julia Nittoli (T-34, 231), junior Maribeth Peevy (39th, 236), and senior Carlee Nanney (49th, 247).

Freshman Lily Gulley competed as an individual and placed 53rd with a score of 255.

The women's golf team takes a couple of weeks off before returning to competition on October 28-29 as they compete at the Town and Country Invitational at Nashville's McCabe Golf Course.
