Gaining Experience

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Belmont men's tennis team wrapped up play at the Samford Fall Invitational on Sunday.

"We learned a lot of valuable lessons playing against high level teams," Director of Tennis Mauricio Antun said. "We competed against a lot of good schools and this will help us get better going forward."

The doubles team of Jake Briggs and David Faulkner started day one in doubles, but fell short to the University of Alabama's double team 6-3. Briggs and Bruno Nunes turned around to play in the single matches, but both players were defeated by Troy.

Eager to bounce back the following day, Briggs forced an extra set in his singles match against Rossouw Norval from Samford. Norval, however, ultimately claimed the first single match with a 7-5 victory in the second set. Faulkner and Nunes were defeated by Samford in day two of the tournament.

The doubles team of Briggs and Faulkner fell short in day three of the doubles section, losing to Benji Jacobsen and Akos Kotorman from Tulane. Nunes, Briggs and Faulkner fell short in their single matches, with Middle Tennessee and Troy picking up the victories.

Belmont continues its fall season starting on Friday, continuing its fall season at the Louisville Fall Invitational.
