NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont's Director of Tennis Mauricio Antun has elevated Danny Hester as a full-time assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs. Hester replaces Mike Mucci, who was named Head Women's Tennis Coach at Southern Utah University last month.
"I am extremely excited to announce Danny Hester as our new assistant coach," said Antun. "He was a big part of our success with both the men's and women's teams last spring and I am confident he will play an even bigger role this coming season to help us achieve our goals. He is very smart, knows how to develop our players, can relate to them very well, and is deeply invested in our program. I look forward to continue working with him and see what we can accomplish with both programs this year."
Danny is no stranger to the programs as he served as a part-time assistant coach during the 2018-2019 season, helping the men's team to an OVC regular season championship and the women's squad to their most wins in nearly 15 years.
A Nashville area native, Hester has been a part of the local tennis community for many years. An accomplished junior player, he helped capture two state championships for Brentwood High School.
While earning a bachelor's degree in materials engineering at Auburn University, Danny competed as a member of the university's club tennis travel team that won a National Championship in 2016.
He is currently a teaching pro at Brentwood Swim & Tennis Club at Wildwood, working with the junior and adult level programs.
The tennis programs open up their 2019 fall season on September 13-15. The men will compete at the Commodore Scramble at Vanderbilt, while the women travel to Clarksville for the Austin Peay Fall Classic.
