HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - - Belmont University men's basketball will play Alabama Saturday, Dec. 21 in the fourth annual Rocket City Classic, the Huntsville Sports Commission announced Wednesday.

The game will be played at the Von Braun Center and be part of a basketball doubleheader also featuring the University of Alabama Huntsville and Spring Hill College.

"The Rocket City Classic has proven to be a successful neutral-site event, so we're thrilled to be a part of it this season," Belmont head coach Casey Alexander said. "Playing Alabama in Huntsville will provide our fans with a great opportunity to see the Bruins on the road against a high caliber opponent."
 
Alabama, which won 18 games last season and finished with a NET ranking of 61, welcomes first-year head coach Nate Oats.
 
"When you talk about playing Belmont – a program that has had great success over the years – it's just a win-win situation for everyone involved," Oats said.
 
Tickets will go on sale later this summer and will be available through Ticketmaster and the Von Braun Center box office.
 
Game times will be set in the coming weeks.

Belmont University men's basketball has earned postseason invitations 13 of the last 14 seasons, including eight berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 17 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (Gonzaga, Kansas). Belmont is one of only six NCAA Division I programs outside the Power 5 to post Top 100 RPIs nine consecutive seasons (BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's (CA), San Diego State, Wichita State). Belmont is one of only nine NCAA Division I programs to win 19 or more games 14 consecutive seasons (BYU, Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, North Carolina, San Diego State). Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 17 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is one of only three NCAA Division I programs to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of existence.
