Student-Athlete Alumni Spotlight -- Lauren Williams Weaver

Student-Athlete Alumni Spotlight -- Lauren Williams Weaver

During the month of September, our Alumni Spotlight is going to profile some of our 2017 Belmont Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees.  Our first profile is Lauren Williams Weaver.

Lauren Williams Weaver ran cross country and track for Belmont from 2003-2008 and was one of top runners in BU history.

In cross country, Weaver earned All-Atlantic Sun First Team honors four times, was the 2007 Atlantic Sun Conference Individual Champion and Runner of the Year, and helped her team win three A-Sun titles.  In addition, she earned Belmont’s highest placement ever at the NCAA Cross Country Championship in 2007.

Lauren was just as successful on the track.  The Nashville native was a four-time A-Sun event champion in four different events, earned All-Conference honors seven times, and qualified in the 5000 meters at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

Weaver recently talked with BelmontBruins.com about her experiences at Belmont and her current life with her family in Nashville.

Why did you choose Belmont?

I loved the family feel, and being in the heart of Nashville.

What is your fondest athletic memory at Belmont?

Qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championship in 2007.

Who had the biggest influence on you during your athletic career at Belmont and how?

My then boyfriend, now husband, Austin!  He’s the most positive person I know and has always been so encouraging and supportive go all of my dreams….He’s always been my biggest fan!

What is the most valuable thing you gained or learned from your time at Belmont?

The most valuable thing I gained from Belmont is definitely the strong friendships I made with my teammates.  Even though we don't all live close together or see each other all the time we’re still really close—I think we’ve even grown closer since graduating from Belmont which I'm really grateful for.

What advice would you give to current members of the cross country team?

College goes by really fast so it’s never too early to really commit to your goals/dreams!

Who was your favorite professor and why?

Vaughn May—he’s hilarious. He was my political science professor and I think he made me laugh every day I had him for class!

Where do you live now?

Forest Hills/Nashville

Who is your employer?

I’m a stay at home mom to two wild boys!

Tell us about your family.

I’m married to my college boyfriend, Austin Weaver, and we live here in Nashville with our two sons- Cullen (4), and Liam (3). They are so fun and keep really busy.  We have a really tight-knit family and I'm so grateful that most of them live here in Nashville so we get to see them regularly!  Austin and I met through running so we still try to run together as much as possible.  Most Saturday mornings you’ll find us pushing the boys in the running stroller through Percy Warner Park.
