#investedinyou Tuesday - Mental Health Awareness Week Recap

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University Athletics and the Ohio Valley Conference partnered on the second annual Mental Health Awareness Week Feb. 18-23.

Belmont University Athletics and Belmont SAAC partnered with academic programs for week-long programming centered on healthy dialogue and transparency regarding mental health issues facing student-athletes and the broader campus community.

A panel discussion led by assistant track coaches Kate Bucknam and Kassie Powell provided student-athletes in attendance a wealth of information and support.

"I thought last week's panel was great," Bucknam said. "People got to hear from not only former Division I student-athletes who had struggles with mental health themselves, but also regular students who've found much value in seeking help. I think mental health awareness all begins with a conversation - and to be able to tell our stories and why we want to pursue studying this field goes to show that it's not something to be ashamed of, but something that can help us get out of a place where we feel stuck, and thus perform better in the classroom, on the sports field and in life."

Bruin teams also wore green in competition during the week, supporting the mental health awareness cause.
