NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University women's track and field team travels to Atlanta, Ga. this weekend to compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational, April 21-22.
The Bruins will square off against OVC rivals Austin Peay, Jacksonville State, Tennessee State and SEMO. Other notable entries include Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Western Kentucky, and Lipscomb.
Competition kicks off Friday at 11 a.m. Central time with the hammer throw and Saturday at 11 a.m. with the high jump at the George C. Griffin Track.
Last weekend the Bruins competed at the Austin Peay State University Invitational. The squad was led by the 4X400-meter team of sophomore Annelise Doerr (Fountain Valey, Calif.), freshman Lexi Grieves (Metamora, Ill.), freshman Katrina Quigley (Nashville, Tenn.), and sophomore LaCarol Baynes (Houston, Texas) who crossed the finish line at 3:59.01 giving them a silver place finish.
Baynes also had impressive finishes in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes, placing fourth in both races, clocking in at 24.56 and 57.58 respectively. Both finishes were personal records for the second year Bruin.
More personal records were broken in the 800 meter run. Quigley and freshman Lark Morrison (Nashville, Tenn.) recorded personal bests with times of 2:24.04 and 2:23.78, respectively. Teammate Alexa Yatauro (Huntington Beach, Calif.) also recorded a personal best in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:41.37.
Following this weekend's competition, the Bruins will next take the track at the Billy Hayes Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
