• Softball to Host Elite Camp at Rose Park Over Labor Day Weekend

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Belmont softball team will be offering an Elite Camp over Labor Day weekend, September 3-4th. The clinic will be led by Bruin coaches and players and will provide skill instruction for offense and defense, as well as competitive games and a recruiting question and answer session. The camp will be held out at E.S. Rose Park, the new home of the Belmont softball team.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn.--- Belmont fell, 0-6 in the first game of the season finale against Lipscomb on Saturday night at Draper Diamond. A tough call against the Bruins in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Lipscomb new life and a chance to add to their 0-1 lead. The Bisons scored five more runs to reach the final margin and Belmont was unable to match the high scoring inning.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn.--- Belmont used a strong pitching effort from sophomore Devon Schmidt to upset Lipscomb, earning the first win against the Lady Bisons since 2006 and the first win at Lipscomb since 2005. The win made the Bruins 11-38 on the season, passing their 10 win mark from last season.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont knocked off Lipscomb in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader to earn a split in the 2011 edition of the Battle of the Boulevard series. The Bruins fell in game one, 0-6, after holding Lipscomb scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. The win in game two gave Belmont win number 11 on the season, surpassing last season’s total of 10 wins. The win was the first for the Bruins over the Lady Bisons’ since 2006.

The Bruins will conclude the season with a rivalry game against Lipscomb on Saturday. The first game at Draper Diamond will begin at 6 p.m.

The Bruins lost 0-1 in game one, surrendering the lone run in the top of the seventh inning. Belmont fell in game two, 3-5, after bouncing back from a 0-2 hole after the first inning. The Bruins will finish out the conference portion of their home schedule with a doubleheader against Kennesaw State tomorrow afternoon at Rose Park. Senior Day ceremonies will be held tomorrow, and those are set to begin at 12:30 p.m. with the first game of the doubleheader to follow at 1 p.m.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont junior Ashley Byers (Westerville, Ohio), was named the Softball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Byers, an exercise science major, earned the honor after hitting two key home runs, including a two-run shot in the Bruins’ upset win over first place Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday afternoon. Byers is just the fourth Bruin all-time to win the weekly conference honor. Belmont picks up the award for only the fifth time in program history.

The win was the first for the Bruins in series history and marked the third conference win and 10th overall win of the season, matching the win total for 2010.
