NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's golf team aims for a conference title at a new venue as they compete at the 2018 OVC Championship held this Monday-Wednesday at The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
At last year's championship at Hampton Cove near Huntsville, Alabama, the Bruins finished in a tie for fourth place with Austin Peay. Two BU golfers finished among the top-20. 2017 graduate Abbie Gregory tied for sixth place, while Mallory Sullivan tied for 16th place.
Entering the championship, the team has five top-six finishes in eight events. Their best finishes were a win in a head to head match with UT-Dallas and second place showings at Arkansas State and the Town and Country Invitational.
Belmont is led by senior Mallory Sullivan. She leads the team with a 77.7 average and five top-10 finishes, including an individual title at Austin Peay last fall. Freshman Maribeth Peevy ranks second in scoring at 78.5 and has four top-20 finishes.
This year's championship will take place at a new venue, the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. It will be contested on the Schoolmaster Course, which will play to a par 72 and a length of 6,043 yards. It's the third time The Shoals has been the host of the championship, but the first time the championship has been played on the Schoolmaster Course.
The first round of the championship will begin Monday morning at 8:00am. Belmont will tee off between 8:50-9:30am from the first hole.
