NASHVILLE, Tenn. – No. 23/25 Belmont women's basketball senior Kylee Smith (Alpharetta, Ga.) has been named to the 2017-18 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Women's Basketball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Monday.
The fifth-year guard has helped the Bruins to their most successful season in program history, all while excelling in the classroom. Having graduated with a degree in Business Administration in the Spring of 2017, the Vanderbilt transfer is pursuing a Master's in Sport Administration to complete her final year of eligibility. Smith has compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.90 during her collegiate career and is boasting a 4.0 in grad school.
On the hardwood, Smith is leading the team with 18.6 points per game having registered double-digit scoring performances in all but one game this season. She has poured in 20-plus points in 11 games, including a pair of 30-point outings. The Alpharetta, Ga. native is shooting .446 from the field with a .377 clip from beyond the arc during her senior campaign. In addition to leading the squad in scoring, Smith has averaged 7.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists in 28 appearances.
Throughout her career, Smith has made a mark on Belmont women's basketball. She has carved her named in eight statistical categories in BU's all-time record book, including holding a spot as the program's seventh highest scorer having poured in 1,500 points in just three years of play at Belmont. Her 18.6 points a game ranks as the second-best scoring average in Belmont's Division I era single season records.
Collectively, the team boasts a 31-3 overall record while riding a 22-game winning streak. Their 31-win season is the Bruins first of its Division I era and just the third in program history. Belmont has won its last 46-consecutive OVC contests after putting together its second-straight undefeated regular season mark against league foes. Smith has played a vital role in Belmont's first-ever national ranking as the Bruins currently sit in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Top 25.
Smith is the first women's basketball player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in program history. She earned a spot on the Second Team roster and is the only OVC student-athlete to make the list.
