Senior Sendoff

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University men's soccer team closes out regular season play with a home match at E.S. Rose Park Friday afternoon against Horizon League stalwart UIC.  Before the match, slated to kickoff at 4 p.m. CT, the Bruins will honor their two seniors.

Consistent Defense

Belmont has continued to build on a tradition of strong defense during the 2017 campaign.  The squad is on pace to allow the fewest goals in program history.  The 2004 Belmont squad allowed 22 goals on the season, the fewest ever by a BU team.  The Bruins have conceded only 20 goals heading into their last matchup of the season. The back line currently sits second in the conference in both saves per game (4.27) and save percentage (0.762).

Last Time Out

Last Saturday, the Bruins traveled to Green Bay for their final road match of the 2017 campaign.  Both squads were scoreless through regulation and one overtime.  Green Bay netted the game-winner in the 105th minute of the match.

Corner Crazy

The Bruins have been solid and consistent in the attacking third, having been awarded 91 corner kicks to their opponents' 76.  The squad averages 6.07 corner kicks per game, the second most in the Horizon League and 24th most in the NCAA.  The Flames sit just in front of the Bruins in corner kicks per game, averaging 6.19 per game.

Scouting the Flames

Head coach Sean Phillips is in his eighth season at the helm of the UIC men's soccer program.  The Flames currently sit in the second place spot in the Horizon League with a conference record of 5-2-0.  UIC is coming off a 1-0 win against Oakland last Saturday.  The Flames record the most shots on goal per game in the league (6.75) and third most assists per game (1.38). Junior Oscar Gonzales leads the Flames' high-octane offense with five goals and five assists for 15 points.  Gonzales has recorded 48 shots on the season with 21 of them landing on frame.
