NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball head coach Rick Byrd announced Monday the signing of Derek Sabin (Slinger, Wis.) to a national letter of intent to play basketball for the Bruins, starting in the fall of 2018.

Sabin, a 6-8 forward, averaged 15.1 points and 10.8 rebounds as a junior for Slinger High School. A four-year varisty letterwinner and three-year starter, Sabin was ranked among the top prep players in Wisconsin by Rivals.com and WisSports.Net

"Our basketball program is really excited that Derek Sabin has chosen Belmont University," Byrd said. "Derek has a skill-set and toughness that will be welcome additions. His abilities fit seamlessly into our offensive system, and the coaching staff believes Derek's best basketball is yet to come. Bruin fans will enjoy watching Derek play, and we look forward to his career as a Bruin."

Sabin joins Mitch Listau and Adam Kunkel in the incoming men's basketball class.
