Schedule Coming Into Focus

PRINCETON, N.J. - - Belmont University men's basketball will face Washington and Providence in the Regional Round of the 23rd annual 2K Classic benefitting Wounded Warrior Project, the Gazelle Group announced Wednesday.

Belmont will open the season at Washington Nov. 10 and play at Providence Nov. 22.

Washington welcomes first-year head coach Mike Hopkins, who enjoyed a decorated playing and coaching career at Syracuse. The Huskies, who sport 56 NBA Draft choices in program history - including five first-round selections in the last five years, are expected to add to that total in 2017 with projected lottery pick Markelle Fultz.

The Bruins and Huskies have one prior meeting - Nov. 15, 2009 in Seattle. Washington, led by Isaiah Thomas, Quincy Pondexter and Justin Holiday, won 96-78, in Golden State Warrior guard Ian Clark's second career game at Belmont.

Providence has earned four consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament under head coach Ed Cooley. The Friars have a deep and talented roster returning, including middle Tennessee area native and former Tennessee Mr. Basketball Jalen Lindsey.

Tip times and television will be announced at a later date.

Belmont will host the Subregional Round of the 2K Classic benefitting Wounded Warrior Project Nov. 18-19 at the Curb Event Center. 

Belmont University men's basketball has earned postseason 11 of the last 12 seasons, including seven automatic berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 16 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (Gonzaga, Kansas). Belmont is one of only seven NCAA Division I programs outside the Power 5 to post Top 100 RPIs seven consecutive seasons (BYU, Gonzaga, Saint Mary's (CA), San Diego State, VCU, Wichita State). Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 15 CoSIDA Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is one of only three NCAA Division I programs to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of existence.
