Fall Series Recap - Navy Wins In Seven

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont baseball team concluded its annual Fall World Series over the weekend, as the Navy Team won the final two contests by a combined score of 15-2 to take the series in seven games.

After allowing Navy to tied the series at 2-2 last week, Grey fought back with a 6-4 victory in game five to take a 3-2 advantage in the series.  A combined shutout for the pitching staff in Game Six and a pair of solo homers at the plate in Game Seven helped lead the Navy Team to their come from behind Fall World Series Championship.

Junior Chase Brookshire (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Senior Garrett Fanchier (Lebanon, Tenn.), and junior Tim Bowles (Hendersonville, Tenn.) each pitched three innings of shutout baseball and tallied three strikeouts a piece in their respective three inning outings during Game Six.

Navy was only leading 1-0 before a six run seventh inning gave the squad a distinct advantage.  Junior Jared Breen (Marietta, Ga.) recorded a pair of singles, while sophomore Daley Hill (Brentwood, Tenn.) connected on a two-run single to help lead Navy to the 8-0 victory.

Freshman Drew Ferguson (Knoxville, Tenn.) tallied two doubles in the losing effort for Grey, while sophomore James Buckelew (Suwanee, Ga.) recorded another solid outing on the mound this fall.  The left-hander allowed only one run, and a single infield hit, while striking out seven batters in six innings pitched.

Breen, who also singled twice in Game Seven, tallied his solo home run in the top of the sixth to give Navy the lead in a then 1-1 tie.  Senior Zac Mitchell (Cordova, Tenn.) added a solo shot of his own and a base hit to help Navy to the 7-2 victory.  Senior Dylan Craig (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and sophomore Spencer Petett (Tompkinsville, Ky.) chipped in with a pair of singles in the win.

Senior Matt Hamann (Northbrook, Ill.), junior Josh Davis (Fayetteville, Ga.), and freshman Austin Coley (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) allowed only one earned run between them to lead Navy to the Game Seven victory.  Coley struck out four batters in his three innings of action.

Freshman Scott Moses (Englewood, Tenn.) allowed only one run, struck out three, and walked no batters in his five innings of action on the mound the Grey Team.  Freshman Jamie Ritchie (Buford, Ga. And freshman Matt Beaty (Dresden, Tenn.) each tallied to singles, while the former added a solo home run in the defeat.
