Belmont Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Constitution and By-Laws
ARTICLE I: Name
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee
composed of student-athlete representatives for their particular
sport.
ARTICLE II: Purpose
A. To streamline and promote efficient communication between the
Belmont University Athletic Department and the student-athlete
population.
B. To design and implement programs which will encourage
academic achievement, health promotion, social responsibility, and
general awareness while complying with the Statement of Purpose of
Belmont University.
C. To actively encourage more involvement of the
student-athletes in campus and community projects.
D. To provide an open communication line for student-athletes to voice problems and concerns.
ARTICLE III: Membership
Members of the SAAC shall be composed based on the following
qualifications and guidelines:
1. Minimum GPA of 2.50
2. Coaches recommendation of the student-athlete based on
leadership skills
3. Confirmation of selection by Academic Administration
Representative
ARTICLE IV: Officers
A. Officers shall be as follows:
1. President
2. Vice-President
3. Secretary
4. Advisors without voting power
a. Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR)
b. Academic Administration Representative
B. Voting proceedings for officers shall take place during the last meeting of the academic year.
C. Voting shall be preceded by nomination by members of
the SAAC followed by a secret ballot vote.
1. Nomination can be declined
2. President shall appoint Vice-President and Secretary
D. Nominated officers must have served on the SAAC for a minimum of one year.
E. Impeachment shall occur if the SAAC has a two-thirds majority vote to remove the officer. The impeachment must be reviewed by the FAR and the Academic Administration Representative.
ARTICLE V: Meetings
A. Meetings shall take place on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each
month barring academic holidays.
B. Members are required to attend unless athletic conflict prevents attendance. In the case of a non-athletic related absence, an alternate shall be appointed by that SAAC member to represent the absent member.
C. Removal from the SAAC will occur if a member is absent three times.
ARTICLE VI: Amendments
The constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote. The
vote is only valid if at least two-thirds of the members are
present. The proposals of the amendments must be submitted to the
committee at least one month prior to voting or at the previous
meeting.
ARTICLE VII: Non-Discrimination
Statement
The Belmont University SAAC fulfills the Belmont University
Statement of Purpose by not discriminating upon age, sex, race, or
religion.
