Men’s Basketball 1959-62
Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach 1963
Year Inducted: 1991
Former Belmont basketball player and current Hall of Famer Ron Bargatze said this about Ronnie Sharer, “he absolutely taught me more about basketball than anyone else.”
That’s the kind of man Sharer was, someone who led through example on and off the court. After graduating from West High School he enrolled at Vanderbilt where he wanted to become a star player. It was not long before he made the transfer to Belmont and the Rebel program reaped the benefits.
Sharer’s fundamentals were off the charts as he established himself as one of the best distributors in the game and someone who everyone else looked to in crunch time. During the 1961-62 season he was named MVP of the VSAC and was a key figure in giving Belmont credibility as a basketball power before coach Ken Sidwell took over the following year.
