Academics is one of the cornerstones of Belmont University's Department of Athletics. Since the move to Division I in 1997, Belmont student-athletes have excelled in the classroom and in competition. Nine out of the past eleven years Belmont student-athletes have won the Atlantic-Sun Conference Academic trophy. This past academic year, 76.39% of its student-athletes earned a grade-point average of 3.00 or better.
ACADEMIC POLICY STATEMENT
Belmont University's Department of Athletics strives to offer a balanced academic and athletic program that encourages student-athletes to develop life-long skills. Specifically, the department seeks to:
- Recruit only student-athletes with the potential to succeed academically and athletically;
- Maintain the athletic eligibility of every student athlete;
- Graduate student-athletes;
- Protect the academic integrity of the University; and
- Comply with all rules and regulations of the University, the Ohio Valley Conference and the NCAA
As NCAA Division I competitors, Belmont student-athletes face
the challenge of juggling multiple responsibilities and
obligations, including practice and competition, road travel,
strength & conditioning workouts and, most importantly,
academic demands (both in and out of the classroom). To help
our student-athletes balance this taxing load and achieve the
most rewarding college experience possible, Belmont University
Athletics has developed extensive academic support programming and
services. Some of these programs are mandatory for first-year
athletes while others are optional services open to all
student-athletes, including fifth year/post-eligibility
athletes.
