Lindsey (Tonkin) Wheeley is entering her 15th year as the head cheerleading coach for Belmont University.
Lindsey grew up in Chattanooga, TN where she was a cheerleader at Red Bank High School for 4 years, serving on varsity for 3 of those years and as captain her senior year. She was a member of Red Bank's competition squad, and also cheered competitively with the coed all-star team at United Cheerleading in Chattanooga. In 1997 Lindsey was named a Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) All-Star. After graduating from high school in 1998, Lindsey spend the next 4 summers as a UCA staff instructor.
Lindsey attended the University of Alabama where she was a cheerleader for the Crimson Tide and a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She received a degree in Advertising from Alabama in 2002.
During her time at Belmont, Lindsey formed the program's first-ever competitive cheerleading squad. In 2009, the squad was named Cheersport's Grand Champions in the Open/College division in Nashville. In both 2010 and 2011, the squad placed 6th in the nation in the division 1 - large coed category at UCA's College Cheerleading Nationals in Orlando, FL.
Lindsey has judged several local, regional, and national cheerleading & dance competitions, and was a Nashville Predators Dancer in 2007. She is certified by the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors (AACCA), and is CPR and first-aid certified.
Lindsey works full-time as the Sr. Marketing Marketing Manager-Campaigns at HealthStream.
She and her husband Adam recently wed on March 1, 2014.
